I had come into the city from Boston for Lessons. As I remember, it was freezing cold in Boston, so I had to take the train. Eleanor was in love with my fur jacket and even tried it on. Then she turned to me and said, "I am going to sing at the Continental Baths." I gasped. She didn't say must else.
I don't think she was pleased with her situation at The New England Conservatory. She wanted something more. Teaching privately in NYC was going well. Maybe it was a lark, maybe she hoped it would be cross over situation.
She also did the Christmas Album thing, in the same vain.
I always thought she was sad at this point.
