More and more in my morning vocalises, I am returning back to my solfege upbringing. Especially, the measurement of Do to Re, Do to Mi, Do to Fa, etc. I want to connect better with these distances, uphill and downhill, from one register to the next. As singers, we need to know these distances mentally, hearing wise, and physically. This distance of a perfect fourth or greater, from first to second or third gear, as I call them, is so very important. We become lazy with connecting the jumps, phrasing. Downhill, we tend to let things go downhill.
